Description
: Read. Sing. Worship. Welcome to what you were
made for.
This CD was inspired by a little, orange book called
The
Cross Centered Life , by C.J. Mahaney. Maybe you've read it. The book was
written to help instruct our wayward hearts and to remind our forgetful souls
that there is one glorious, overwhelming truth that should inhabit the very core
of our existence. It's the gospel. Christ died to save sinners. That's the main
thing. And that's the reason these songs were written. You can think of them as
a soundtrack to the book.
The cross of Christ is the heart of the
Christian faith and the pivot point of history. It's simple enough for a child
to grasp, yet no amount of study or meditation can comprehend its full wonder
and significance.
When this life is over, sinners who have been made
righteous through the sacrifice of Jesus will gather around the throne of the
Lamb of God. There we will join our voices in worship, a perfect music from pure
hearts, presented to the only One worthy of praise. But we don't have to wait
for that day. We're not supposed to wait. We can, and should, look to the cross
now. We can, we must, worship God for the cross now.
That's why this CD
was created. Because that's what we were made for.
A first for Sovereign Grace Ministries,
Songs for the Cross
Centered Life is a worship CD inspired by a book. What the book does in
print, this CD does in 14 cross-centered songs, five of which are new and nine
are updated favorites from earlier recordings. The CD includes a booklet that
contains the entire first chapter from
The
Cross Centered Life, making the project an inspiring reminder of how to
preach the gospel to ourselves and equipping us with songs by which to do
this."'My heart is filled with a thousand songs proclaiming the glories of
Calvary.' This line from the chorus of 'The Glories of Calvary' by Steve and
Vikki Cook explains why we produced
Songs for the Cross Centered Life.
Using various musical styles ranging from Celtic to pop, from classical to
gospel rock, we extol the glories of the Lamb who was slain for our sins. Some
of the songs may be familiar, some you’ll be hearing for the first time. But all
of them are simply a distant echo of the glorious new song being sung around the
heavenly throne. Our prayer is that as you listen, you will be drawn to worship
the Savior whose cross will ever be the center of our lives." – Bob Kauflin,
Director of Worship Development for Sovereign Grace Ministries."I'm no singer
(ask my friends), but I love to sing about the cross. A Christian's heart should
be brimming every day with the song of Calvary.... If like me you can't play an
instrument, worship to recorded music. There is no better way to start each day
than to employ songs and hymns that speak of the cross with clarity and
power."
