Description : An introductory guide to the life and works of Reformer Martin Luther. His major works are introduced and summarized. Also discussed are his pastoral writings. Protestants of all stripes have long read at least a few of Martin Luther’s works, but 21st century readers need guidance and encouragement. Stephen Nichols’s
Martin Luther provides both. After an exciting overview of Luther’s life and theology, Nichols orients the reader to some of the Reformer’s major works:
The Bondage of the Will ,
The Three Treatises ,
The Small Catechism , and
On the Councils and the Church . Luther’s ethical writings, “table talk,” hymns, and sermons also receive due attention. “A Select Guide to Books by and about Luther” concludes this volume, which displays more than 20 illustrations.

“How do you do a book on everything from training of children to hymns to preaching to political conflict—and have it always full and running over with the glorious gospel, which Luther found again for the whole Christian world? Well, Nichols has done it.”

Monergism Review:
You can quote me on this one: Stephen J. Nichols has written the best biography on Luther I have ever seen! This book is only 240 pages and it contains in-depth details about his life and a complete overview of his theology. Nichols, how did you do it? I think Nichols is the best biographer of our time because he is accurate, concise and very readable.
Our children must continue to learn about the heritage of the Reformation and about Luther, and this is the best book to do it with. If you have always wanted to know more about Luther’s life and thought then there is no other book. Start here! I have read at least five full biographies of Luther, including the famous
Here I Stand, and I assure you it doesn’t even hold a candle to this work. There are little details in this book about Luther that bring him to life like no other work I have seen. We applaud the beneficial scholarship of Stephen J. Nichols. Hard to believe that a person would not like this book unless they didn't like Luther or they are searching for detail without character. Whatever their reason I am sure it would not stand.
