Description: "Throughout my pastoral ministry I have always seen a need for laying a good foundation, and this has been particularly evident in dealing with new converts and those young in the faith. In these days especially there are not a few who profess faith with very little knowledge of the Scriptures.

It seemed desirable, therefore, to provide some remedy for this lack, and these Notes seek to give a balance between doctrine and obedience, as well as a devotional relationship with the Lord. They are produced with a twofold purpose. First to give encouragement for daily Bible reading and to help in finding one's way in the Bible, and secondly that the reader may be pointed to Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life.

This book gives about six months' readings, after which I would hope the reader will be encouraged to find his own way around. The Scriptures are basic to the Christian life and these Notes are sent forth with the prayer that they may be useful to that end. The light (of truth) and the grace (of life) must go together and we have sought to work this out here."

About the Author
After training for the ministry at Spurgeon's College (1948-52) David Bugden spent fifty years in pastoral ministry in the U.K. and Canada. From his early ministerial days he was greatly influenced by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones and found fellowship in the newly-formed Banner of Truth in 1956. He resigned from the Baptist Union in 1966 because of its ecumenical stance and has since ministered in Reformed Baptist circles. He was review editor of the Grace Magazine when it was first formed, and also secretary of the Westminster Conference for ten years, of which Martyn Lloyd-Jones was the Chairman.

His wife, Pamela, has for many years been an editorial assistant for the Banner of Truth, and in various ways they are both still actively seeking to promote good, reformed books.
