Description :
Everyone experiences anger, but few of us handle it in a Christ-centered
way or know how to help others biblically. We need something better than our own
moral efforts and resolutions if we really want to rid our hearts of deep-rooted
anger. In this biblically-based, practical guide to anger management, Robert D.
Jones focuses on changing the underlying motivations and beliefs of the heart
that drive angry behavior. By uprooting these heart problems, readers will learn
to handle their anger and see the fruit of thorough and lasting change. Ideal
for either personal or group study, Uprooting Anger includes discussion and
application questions in each chapter.
“Far and
away the best material on anger I have read, thoroughly biblical and immensely
practical. Jones does a masterful job of helping us identify anger in our lives,
then gives us biblical steps for uprooting it. Every Christian ought to
prayerfully read this book and apply its teaching.”
Jerry Bridges,
author of
The Pursuit of Holiness
“Most of us
find it all too easy to use words like hurt, frustrated, troubled to conceal the fact that we are often controlled by sinful
anger. This book cuts through this disguise, exposes our bondage to anger, and
marks a clear path to peace and freedom.”
Ken Sande,
President, Peacemaker Ministries
“Two things
are hard to do with anger: face the fact that you have a problem with it and be
hopeful as you do. This book will help you do both. Jones shows that the Bible
is both shockingly honest about anger’s cause and wonderfully encouraging about
its cure.”
Paul David Tripp,
author of
Age of Opportunity
“From road
rage to subterranean simmering, anger is a significant problem in many
Christians’ lives. Jones brings counseling experience, a knowledge of his own
heart, and the riches of the gospel to believers who seek to walk more worthily
in the Lord. In Uprooting Anger you’ll find practical help as well as
theological depth.”
Elyse Fitzpatrick,
author of
Idols of the Heart
“Scriptural,
practical, and comprehensive. Jones correctly identifies the root cause of anger
as the human heart, and shows that its cure is the grace of God. This book is
excellently written, wonderfully illustrated, and helpfully documented.”
Daniel L. Akin,
President, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
Robert D.
Jones is assistant professor of biblical counseling at Southeastern Baptist
Theological Seminary. Jones is the author of the Resources for Changing Lives
booklets Forgiveness, Angry at God? and Bad Memories.
Monergism Review :
When we are born again,
we are not miraculously mortified over night, thus many of our habits and much
of our attitude remains. Because of this, we will inevitably deal with anger and
every other vice contingent upon the flesh. Anger is a natural product of sin as
well as a sin; this book helps to deal with that sin. Surly, every last position
might not be agreed, but this book is a step in the right direction. If you are
overcome by your anger, want to better understand anger then this book is a must
for you. Read it to help others or if you live with anger. Honestly, I know of
no other book that addresses the topic so thoroughly. We do not find a magazine
here, full of psycho-babble and man-made psychological excuses, rather we find
Scripture confronting us with the error and justice of our anger, diagnosing the
problem, and giving us a Biblical solution. Well done Mr. Jones, guaranteed to
be a help to all those (Christians) who read it!
