Description:
There are very few things in this world that are more misunderstood and distorted than the gospel. Even among believers there is a great deal of confusion  about what the gospel is. Perhaps this is because, due to our corrupt bent, we often gravitate toward making a savior of
(otherwise good) things like morality, in the place of Christ. But, as we hope to to point out in this book, the gospel is not about what man does, but rather, about what Christ did. In God's economy both moral and immoral people are equally alienated from God. This may be counter-intuitive but it is often the case that goodness keeps people from God. In fact many people avoid Jesus by avoiding sin because they are trying to become their own saviors ... attempting to justify themselves. As such, Christ calls sinners to repent of both good (and bad works), for we have no righteousness of our own.  Thus when Christ shows me my utterly desperate condition, my self-righteousness is renounced and self-complacency laid waste. It is then (and only then) that we come to recognize Jesus ALONE as the Savior .. and, by the grace of God, say AMEN to the gospel as the saving event of Jesus, the Messiah, which is grounded in the Scriptures concerning His life, death, burial and resurrection.

These truths will all be traced more deeply in the pages of this book as we explore the writings of some of the the clearest expressions of the gospel from church history.
