Monergism Review: A skilled commentator himself, Longman’s survey is the best available on the market. In comparison, I must confess, I did not find it as exhaustive as Carson’s New Testament Survey; this may be because Old Testament commentaries are harder to come by.  Longman is different from Carson, but he is just as helpful. Commentaries are expensive, often lengthy and sometimes rare. It would be a most daunting task to sift through all the material that is examined here, but Longman makes it effortless. The help provided by this small survey is enormous. If you own commentaries, love to study scripture, are looking for the right commentary, this book is a must for you. Honestly, I would not be without it.
