Description: "My name from the palms of his hands, eternity will not erase; impressed on his heart it remains, in marks of indelible grace."

August Toplady wrote these lines 250 years ago as he pondered words written by Isaiah over 2500 years earlier! (Is. 49:15-16) Truly the gospel is not a passing fad. Isaiah is drawing a contrast with the pagan worshippers who would often carve the name of their "god" into their own palms – the throbbing pain a constant reminder of their devotion!

While our God needs to reminders, the image does serve to remind us of the nature of the gospel. Pagan worship (much of it practiced in the name of Christ by the way!) is all about trying to get the "gods" to notice you… but the gospel is that God took notice of us when we were without hope, that He "pitied us while enemies," and then inflicted incalculable pain upon himself so that we would never be forsaken or forgotten!

In these hymns we have touched something solid and real, and our hearts resonate with the rich expressions of a faith that embraces both joy and sorrow.

Our hope is that the church would recover the tradition of putting old hymns to new music for each generation, and that God’s people would be encouraged to worship him with words written by men and women with a huge view of God and His sovereign and "indelible grace." On behalf of the college group at Christ Community and Reformed University Fellowship at Belmont University, we hope you will be challenged and strengthened by this project!

Soli Deo Gloria!

"If you’ve ever agonized over fitting that traditional hymn with the great lyrics into your contemporary service and ended up frustrated, then you need to get hold of this recording. The college ministry of Christ Community Church in Franklin, TN, has married the time honored truths and sentiments of the past to the fresh, acoustic music that flows from this generation, and the effect is wonderful.

You’ll need to listen closely to the lyrics to recognize each song because the music is so vastly different from the original. But in doing so, those lyrics take on a whole new color and significance, as you’ve never heard them before. Open a service with the acoustic rock invitation of Joseph Hart’s “Come Ye Sinner” and celebrate the grace of God with Wesley’s “And Can It Be.” Challenge the disciple to a deeper devotion with the electric guitar driven “Love Constraining to Obedience” by William Cowper. Go ahead, you can do it with these renditions.

Some of these songs are particularly moving and could be used in a quieter devotional segment of your service. As a lead up to prayer, the plaintive sounds of “I Need Thee Every Hour” will draw the church to cry out to the Lord: “I need Thee/O I need Thee.” Brian Moss has written a gorgeous piano ballad around Samuel Stone’s “The Church’s One Foundation" that takes our attention off the diversities of ecclesiastical institutions and focuses us on our unity in Christ. The melody hasn't been updated for “0 the Deep Deep Love Of Jesus,” but the powerful continental arrangement is inspiring. The intimate trust in our faithful Savior is palpable on the simple final cut, “Dear Refuge Of My Weary Soul.”

I didn't really like their version of “0 For a Thousand Tongues to Sing.” It had a great groove and a really funky Rhodes intro, but the melody just didn't lift the sentiments of this classic high enough for me.

Musically, this recording is excellent. Stylistically, it’s diverse, ranging from Jars of Clay inspired, acoustic folk rock to harmonica and fiddle laced country rock and lots in between. Theologically, it is rock solid. Emotionally, it moves the listener, but not off that solid foundation. Practically, it’s great because the chord charts are available for free at their website (www.igracemusic.com).

There is no superficiality here. I wholeheartedly recommend this to worship leaders for their personal benefit, and so they can bring this generation of worshipers in touch with the emotion and truth expressed by those who have gone before us."

What others have been saying about "Indelible Grace":

"At this point in American evangelicalism, there's an incredible need for substantive praise and worship music. 'Indelible Grace' is not just a refreshing alternative to our churches often watered-down adoration for God, it is setting new standards for other records of its kind. Its lyrics draw upon a rich tradition of hymns from all over the Churches historical map and sets them to a more familiar musical style. Therefore, 'Indelible Grace' accomplishes something extraordinary; it not only moves the listener emotionally, it also engages their mind. More than just being a very difficult task in Christian culture today, it is part of God's primary commandment on His people. I believe 'Indelible Grace' is not only breaking new ground in modern praise and worship music, but is also helping lead God's people into worship that truly pleases Him."
--Derek Webb, Caedmon’s Call

"I have felt the lack of depth married to the current movement in praise music and have prayed for a resurgence of the Gospel truth and poetry deeply rooted in hymns. This collection cuts through the clutter of songs with shallow spiritual sentiment, and revisits the depth of the gospel of grace and mercy. Indelible Grace is a testament to the timelessness of hymns and the present relevance of Gospel truth."
--Dan Haseltine, Jars of Clay

"Thanks so very much for sending me the CD, "Indelible Grace." Very fine pieces, quite delightful. Just this morning, David Stoddard and his praise band taught our congregation your arrangement of "Arise, My Soul," and it was a wonderful time of praise. I've always thought that text was one that was poorly served by its traditional tunes. Your setting really called us to arise! I expect to be using more of these in the future. I thank God for the faith that has moved you all to write and sing. His blessings on you!"
--John Frame, Author, Professor)

"The college ministry of Christ Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Twit has produced an amazing collection of classic hymns with fresh arrangements, new melodies, and inviting passion. What makes this recording so special to me, however, is to recognize that it is simply the overflow of a group of young adults in our congregation who are being captured and transformed by the gospel of God's grace. This is art and heart at their best!"
--Scotty Smith, Sr. Pastor Christ Community Church (PCA), Franklin TN

"Great CD! Thanks for the copy and thanks for including me on a great project. I love the new music, the old hymns (many of which are new since I've never heard them), the performances, the packaging - it's all excellent. Great job, brother, from you and your many talented associates. Glory to God!"
--Buddy Greene, recording artist, PCA ruling elder

"This is by far the best worship album I have ever heard, hands down. Glory to God, and thanks for putting your efforts and talent into this, for the great joy that it brings my heart. Let me know how I can get more copies, and what the cost is. Soli Deo Gloria."
--Bobby Guy

"All I can say is AMAZING! The album is GREAT! I've already ordered 2 copies (which I have received), and it looks like I'll be ordering more in the near future. By the way, I'll be teaching "Thou Lovely Source of True Delight" this coming Sunday evening to my high school and junior high kids. Again, it's FANTASTIC!"
--Jeff Wilkins, Youth Director, Fort Worth Presbyterian – PCA

"I just got my cd yesterday. WOW! It's very, very good. I like it so much I'm going to buy 10 to give to a few of my supporters; I'm even thinking about buying a copy for each member of my music team as a thanks for their hard work this year at FSU. I hope all of the positive response has made your hard work worthwhile."
