Description
: Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. You will say to me then, "Why still find fault? For who resisted his will?" But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God?
--Romans 9:18-20a

Hard words, indeed. But they remain, for all our explanations, God's words.

Easy Chairs, Hard Words offers an honest look at many such difficult passages in Scripture. Presented as a series of fictional conversations between a curious young Christian and a seasoned pastor, these dialogues speak with clarity to those new to the Reformed faith. They begin with the question, "Can salvation be lost?" and from there wrestle with other hard-to-swallow doctrines, including the freedom of the will, election, and original sin.

Hard words, and yet the understanding given these passages is thoughtful and gentle. For our God--the God of hard words--is a merciful and loving Father, slow to wrath and quick to pardon, a triune God who graciously rescues men from death and brings them into everlasting life.

Monergism Review: As far as I am concerned this text is a classic, Doug Wilson’s heresy aside. This is the best I have seen for presenting the doctrines of the Reformation in plain, assessable language. You will be pleased with how easy the book is to understand. Wilson wrote the book in the form of a dialog, making it relevant to daily conversation. The book is a mini course in the five points of Calvinism. He tackles such topics as Can Salvation Be Lost , Is God the Author of Sin , Election , Definite Atonement , passages of scripture, All MenSystematics and much more; all easily explained and entreated.Perhaps, the very best thing about this book is that it covers so many topics in so few pages; and for those of us with limited time concise books like these are priceless. Wilson’s book promises to yield quick results for the new theological reader. I would highly recommend it for beginners, co-workers (especially your Arminian acquaintances) family, friends, home-schooling, teachers, to anyone who wd. read it. It is not the only theology book you will ever need, but it is a great way to start yours or another’s theological education. - B. K. Campbell
