Description :
"The doctrine of the covenants is the key of theology."
--C.H. Spurgeon
Is there an accessible and consistent interpretive framework we can use to understand the Bible? - or is it essentially a disconnected set of concepts? Are we guilty of inconsistency over one of the church's greatest gifts?
The lack of a consistent approach to the study of the Bible has reduced the level of understanding of God's revelation as a whole. The 'lazyology' that has resulted is a key ingredient in the lack of clarity that has made the church 'off-message' to our society.
Help is at hand. Peter Golding gently takes us on a trip through time and unfolds the Big Picture that is Covenantal Theology. The Big Picture that gives you a vision of a Bigger God.
If your God is too small, or if your grasp of theology is shaky, then an understanding of Covenantal Theology will make your understanding clearer, your message deeper and the impact of the church's mission greater.
This unique study surveys, analyzes, and evaluates the main streams of Reformed thinking in this field, and offers a gentle critique from an orthodox stance. It gives the reader a well-documented synthesis of historical, biblical and systematic theologies on the Covenant, and demonstrates its contemporary relevance and the abiding hope it provides for the future.
"A grasp of covenant theology is indispensable to knowing such essential themes as the Christian and the law of God, baptism, the relationship of the old covenant with new, our relationship with Adam and with Christ, the dynamics of the history of redemption, the light cast on the Bible by archaeology and ancient Near-East treaties. The ordinances, the evangelism of children, confessions of faith, the rise of denominations within Protestantism, and even the ministries of John Bunyan and Charles Haddon Spurgeon cannot be appreciated without a grasp of the momentum of covenant theology."
--Rev. Geoffrey Thomas, Aberystwyth, Wales
